I have tracking enabled and set to automatic. The mails were sent and read, but the tracking did not capture the reads. Is there something special I need to do to get this functioning?

Thanks,

Slouch

Slouch,

Hi. I would first check to make sure other things work (such as opt our URL etc...). The tracking feature requires you to specify the main opt in email module and what page its located on within advanced newsletter settings.

Here is a quick explanation though.. When tracking is added a 1 pixel by 1 pixel image is added to each email/newsletter that is distributed. If you research this more on the web its actually referred to as a 'web bug'. This 1x1 image is actually rendered by passing several parameters to your main opt in email module (if you view the source of your email do a quick search for &Track=True to see the URL). You can actually copy and paste the URL into your browser to see it track in real time.

If the tracking URL is setup correctly then the only other problems might be if the users browser forces them to click an 'Activate Images' button etc.. Sometimes outlook doesn't display images unless you right click on the images. For example sometimes outlook has something that comes up with 'Right-click here to download pictures. To help protect your privacy, Outlook prevented automatic download of this picture from the internet'. If this were the case though then no images would show up.

That worked. I hadn't set the page properly. It's now working to the best of its ability. With the image blocking in email clients its is missing quite a few reads, but it helps.

thanks for the quick response.

Where do I see the tracking information? I have 3.0, but I can't find any menu to see the tracking or setup tracking?

All of the tracking is maintained and viewable in the Advanced Newsletter module. Within this module you specify if you would like to add tracking to the email message. You need to make sure within settings you also set the page that your main opt in email module is located on, this is required for tracking to function properly. After you have distributed a newsletter go into the previous newsletters area to review the statistics on how many emails have been read and by which email address, their IP address, read count, etc...

Hi Chad,

does the opt-in module has to be visible in order for the Tracking to work? I've checked the setup, it looks fine and the only "unusual" thing I have is that the opt-in module is visible to certain roles, not to everyone.

Thanks.

Yes. The main opt in email needs to be visible to all users in order for tracking to work right. Otherwise the tracking URL cannot access Opt In Email module. You can add it to a page that all users have rights too but maybe its not visible from the menu? In other words users wouldn't know how to get to that page?

Is there a way to change the default pix? I've looked in settings but may have just missed it.

it removed my ref to the image:

Hi; What exactly do you mean by 'default pix'? The size or the actual spacer image?

Hmmm... It looks like the mail scanner is finding the actual source and adding some code in its place.

We are updating the next release (which is in development as I type) and the new version should allow for many more options as far as email tracking. The additional options will allow tracking to be:

1. Setup as a stylesheet include link
2. Setup as a javascript include link
3. Setup as a larger logo image you can use within your email
4. Setup as it currently is which is a 1x by 1x image

Hi Chad,

I still can't make the tracking work on a second portal. The mail seems to send the correct URL which is in this example:

src="http://www.saludperfecta.com.mx/Contacto/OptInMail/tabid/188/Track/True/OptInEmailID/315130eb-82ce-4261-bb1a-e610f92d7790/NewsletterID/17b8b23b-d5ff-431b-84e0-ca0c9a88c95d/Default.aspx"

But the mail does not show the 1x1 image therefore not tracking the emails.

Thanks.
